You will pay 6% of your basic allowance and any special responsibility allowance into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). You don’t pay contributions on things like travel expenses, subsistence, or dependent carer allowances. These contributions will attract tax relief. Your contributions are very secure as the LGPS is set up by Statute, payment of benefits to members is guaranteed by law.

Your council pays the rest of the cost of providing your pension. Every three years, an actuary checks how much the council should contribute. At the moment, the assumption is that you pay about one-third of the total cost, and the council pays the other two-thirds.
